The architect corner :

Back to work:

One week off, and the project is still moving ahead.
The 50cm thick concret wall , 10 m high is finally visible. It is some massive construction. The concret is being poored ahead. Still 40m long to go. Hope to see such good result next week.

Christmas break memories back from Bruxelles:

Visited the 'Hal Door', a medieval tower at the edge of the old city, restaurated into a museum- I saw it twice with the kids , the temporary exhibit was about tales and legends by Hans Christian Andersen. Great scenography, well thought for our pupils, a perfect site for it of course. The surprise for the architect amator , after the climbing the 4 story screw-stair, is to reach the cafeteria and contemplate the roof frame. A restored wood structure ,3/4 cone like shape and 1/4 straight slope, with a terrace on top (not accessible to the public unless you ask for a derogatory paper at the ministry of culture ...). The kids watched Cindirella while we were enjoying a coffee.

A four hour day trip to Bruges:

50 mn from Bruxelles, a few kms from the North sea is this intact medieval town, Flamand speaking, rich: the Venice of the North. Trully
4 hours of adventure - I walked this last friday under blizzard and snow taking picture of ancient and modern architecture - part of the canals were covered by ice, the bridges covered with snow, the brick facades contrasted perfectly with the grey snowy sky- enchanting landscape but you can't stop too long. There is a guide one should by when going to Bruges - illustrated with images from comic books, you can discover the actual town and its many secret spots as well as learn the history of each place. This book can be bought at the visitor center under the new concert Hall, at the entrance of the old town, 5 mn walk from the train station.
